bulkhead fittings

Hey guys,

I am setting up a 5 tank linked system wtih a 100 gallon rubbermaid sump. I am planning on using 1" bulkheads as most of the tanks are only 30 G. The setup is for fish only. I already bought a 1 3/4 diamond hole saw for the glass cutting. I am going to use pvc as the drain. My question is what type of bulkhead will fit a 1 3/4 hole that i can connect pvc straight to. Now i know it is going to be a 1" bulkhead. Is a slip the one pvc gets glued to ? I am a beginner with plumbing lingo.

SLIP are solvent weld fittings... that is what you are looking for.

You may also want to consider uniseals for the rubbermaids.

Hey thanks guys. I actually noticed that bulkheads are already on the rubbermaid tank. I think it is just siliconed in on one side and I am missing the other. I'll have to pull that out and match it. Then resilicone it back in. Thanks guys.

I was thinking about getting the bkf4 at this link. Can someone tell me if they look ok. They say slip and 1". I'm just not sure of the "low cost"

Go to Home depot and get a male adapter and a female adapter and an oring. Forget Savko, mailorder, and freight costs/waiting for days. The 2 adapter method even looks better.

That type of makeshift bulkhead does not offer much surface area to seal. Bulkheads are cheap and the design is much better than two NPT plumbing fittings and an o-ring. There is a reason that that same setup is not sold as a bulkhead

We can list the mechanical reasons that bulkhead fittings are designed the way they are if need be. The fact that these are going on rubbermaid tubs makes the wider flange and surface area of a purpose built bulkhead even more desirable.
