I just got a tank with 3/4" ID slip bulkhead fitting and is tIhreaded on the outside. I want to cut off the 3/4" pipe glued into the slip and use a threaded elbow. The threads are not standard thread found schedule 40 plumbing. Does any one know the thread type and fitting type I would need and a source? :)

you will not find pvc that will tread up to it. the outside thread is a strait tread. all the white pvc is a pipe thread which is better for making water tight plumming.

I have several of these i want to redo. I could try to use a tap with some slip elbows and see if the hold water and save on buying all new builheads. Does this sound workable?

Trust me when I say that when it comes to plumbing, DONT TAKE ANY SHORTCUTS! You will regret it later, I promise. I am all about saving money but there are a few things that it pays to pay for and plumbing is one of them. Get new bulkheads and save yourself some grief.

Why not just glue a coupling or adapter onto the existing PVC ?
As already indicated, the external threads on a bulkhead aren't designed / sized to be used for a connection.
