my overflows are about 3inches wide.

first, do I need to get any special types of bulkheads so I can put a duroso pipes in?

second, would 2.5 inch bulkheads effectivly seal? or is it advisable to go with the 3inch?

1) No, but a double slip is what I would use.

2) even if you found a 2.5" bulkhead where would you find the pipe? If the holes is "about 3" wide" then you probably need a 2" bulkhead. You need to know the exact size of the hole, then find the bulkhead that fits. It could be a 1.5" bulkhead...

Sounds like it a 2" with a 3.25" hole right???
Measure the hole? Then get a slip/thread bulkhead short body maybe.
Or still going to use a 1.25 PVC pipe to make your duro-stand pipe.
Your buy a thread 1.5" PVC fitting to fit a 1.25" PVC pipe.
Thread into the bulkhead slip on the other side(bottom) of the bulkhead.

IC, the exact size of the holes are 3".

what do you mean, where would I find the pipe?

1) the only bulkhead I know of that will work with a 3" hole is 2" Some 2" bulkheads need a 3.25" . If you sure its 3" then you want the threaded\slip bulkhead.

2) You said "would 2.5 inch bulkheads effectivly seal?" I've never seen a 2.5" bulkhead, so you'll have a hard time finding 2.5" pipe..The bulkhead size is the size of the pipes used, not the size of the holes drilled.
