Bulkhead Understanding for Overflows / Returns

Hello, I am looking for some help on return bulkhead sizing and just general understanding of a custom tank which I am looking at purchasing locally. It is a custom built tank with 2 overflow boxes. The overflow boxes have a qty of 2 , 2.5" holes in each overflow. The tank is drilled on either side with qty of 2 , 1.5" holes.

I am trying to understand the bulkhead sizing for this tank, and I am not sure if the return lines are big enough for a Jebao DCP-8000 pump.

I have only ever used HOB overflow boxes with flexible hosing so going to a reef ready tank is a slight step up for me.

I appreciate the help.

Look up the bulkhead sizes max therotical flow rate. You have 2.5in drill holes which will be 1.5" bulkhead x 4...Then lookup the rating for your pump at the head your system will be at. Accounting a few 45/90s on pump output which will slow it down a little also.

They will handle that pump without a problem. I would spend a little more and get a more reliable pump or have a back up plan.

Yes so the 2.5" holes in the overflow require 1.5" bulkheads. But what about the qty of two - 1.5" holes that are in the back of the tank for the return?

The pump can use 1" hard plumbed, I realize it will have the pump will be y-adaptered.

My next question is for the two return bulkhead fitting sizes in the back of the tank. The tank has two 1.5" holes in the back, will a 1" bulkhead fit in a 1.5" hole? Or do I have to use 3/4" bulkheads in a 1.5" hole?

I want to make sure I get it right, as when I order parts they are almost 7-10 days away from me at the earliest.

Thanks for the help.

It depends on the brand of the bulkheads. Schedule 80 require bigger holes. They should give the deminsions where your ordering from.
