Bulkheads and Overflows

Hi everyone,

I am going to try and start up a 65 gallon tank in the next few months, and i am trying to get all of the kinks worked out so everything will flow smoothly and so i don't waste any money. I plan on getting the 65 gallon (48" long, 18" wide, and 17" tall). I plan on having one central overflow or one corner overflow (leaning towards the corner for aquascaping and flow issues. What I am now wondering is how exactly to plumb my overflow. At first, I had thought that you just left one of the holes as it is, with a bulkhead fitted into it, and one had a return line going back to the top of the tank. (don't laugh at this, im just a newb :) ) how do you plumb the overflow so the water gets into the sump?

Ok, i looked at that site. What i see is a large piece of PVC coming up from the overflow, then a u-tube. So does this kind of overflow need a pump to get the water into the sump? If not, how does it get there with that u-tube?

The water goes down the tube by filling up the overflow high enough to go up and over the 90, u-tube, and then flows down the pipe.

The top of the durso isn't higher then the top of your overflow chamber.

There is a small hole drilled in the top of the durso to help with the flow.

Ok, thanks a lot. One last thing . . . can these be made with just PVC and a 90 or a u-tube, or does it have to be bought?

The durso website provides a list of the pvc parts you need to buy, or you can purchase a completed setup from the durso website.

They are easy to build.
