Butterflytown - 240 FOWLR

Hey matt, I was going through your build once again, and I noticed that the gate valve on the external overflow box is very close to the overflow box, while I have heard people say that the gate valve is best nearest the sump? Have you had any problems with the gate valve being so high near the box?

I haven't had any issues with it being close to the overflow box. What is the reasoning for it being close to the sump? I kind of had to do a makeshift Beananimal overflow because of the limitations in size and location with my box, but I haven't once had any issues with it.

I can try to get some more pictures with better detail if you like.

New critters in the mail, should be here this morning.

Been looking for these for a long time.

I've been away for a while - did you mention the said critters in an earlier post or keeping us in suspense?

Good work with the Arabian, btw ...

Not sure if I can say good work on the Arabian just yet, not been eating much lately.

Critters are parachaetodon ocellatus, courtesy of Coral Imports. Many thanks to Peter for finding these for me.

Im pretty sure I read somewhere to have the gate valve on the main siphon to be as close to the sump as possible, and I didn't want that because it would make adjustments harder. Have you had any problems priming the siphon? Thats my only concern..

Well, 3+ months is worthy of a "good job" accolade in my book.
Interesting critters - a cross between a spadefish & butterfly = NICE!

How's the 8 line doing - my favorite in your tank

Appreciate he sentiment, but with how this fish was doing a month ago, he should have been headed for my display tank. Not I'm not sure he's gonna make it. Time will tell.

The octo is doing well, keeping weight on nicely.

Parachaetodon ocellatus? Pairable and mostly reefsafe. I thing this will be my next butterfly, too. Very beautiful.

Time will tell on pairable and to be honest I have no clue on reef safe. I haven't found much info on these guys.

I'll try to get a video of them up tomorrow.

Thanks Peter, now I just need to get them eating.

As you know, mine were not easy, and never got to anything like pellets.... and quite picky with the frozen they took. I think minced diver scallop and live blackworms were the only thing they ever ate.

I'm hoping to get them into fish frenzy eventually since it has the live black worms.

Any interest in cherry stones? What size were yours, these two are pretty small, really neat size

Well, that didn't last long, both fish dead yesterday morning. Not really sure what happened, floated for 15 minutes, dripped quickly for 30 minutes.

Didn't witness any aggression, they went into the tank with the Arabian, baby blueline and smaller of my semilarvatus.

The fish looked good upon arrival, so I'm kind of scratching my head on this one. Many thanks to Peter at Coral Imports for tracking these guys down for me, even if they didn't make it in the long run.

One of my favorites in there. I almost ordered a second one today.

I live in Australia so this butterfly would be rather local to me, would this increase ease of acclimatisation? Keen on thoughts as it is a beautiful fish. What food does yours eat.

Note I have one semilarvatus on pellets/ frozen food in qt! Also a big butterfly and Angel fan.

I'm so sorry!! That sucks!....

How long did yours last?

I wonder why these aren't brought in much? I seen them on tranship lists frequently and they are pretty cheap, but no one ever lists them online.

I'm wondering if they are just poor shippers or maybe they are a cyanide caught fish.
