buying a dremel

So I recently got a few beauties from reef's edge and I really love them, but IMO I think reef tanks look best when the plugs they have been attached to are completely hidden and or removed...
Soo....

Im buying a dremel. There are so many to choose from, does anyone have any recommendations on which ones I should purchase and what attachment is needed to cut/chip of rocks and hard tissue on corals?? I was looking at the cordless version, but if anyone has any recommendation it would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS

If was buying one over again I would get a corded one with no attachments if possible, at least the ones that come bundle to the dremmel I find no use for them in the hobby, so I think they are a waste of money.
I will get the diamond cutting wheel and thats all you need.

If you ONLY plan on using the dremmel for related projects related to this hobby, mainly cutting corals and rocks....then yes I agree with Rogger's comment.
BUT, if you use the dremmel for other things like me then the bundled sets can come in handy.
Cordless are cool too, but if go with a cordless dremmel make sure you get an extra battery.

keep in mind the cordless too will have alot less torque/rpms.

i bought the flexible attachment, makes maneuvering alot easier. i love my dremel though, what you can do with it is endless!

I've used Dremels since I can remember and it's my favorite tool. If I can offer you a bit of advise "DO NOT" get the cordless Dremel as you'll be kicking yourself in the butt if you do. Batts don't last long at all and the cordless has NO power/torque what so ever.

I got the Dremel 400 series XPR a little while ago. It comes with a bunch of different attachments and wheels. Its the 1st ive ever used so i have nothing to compare it to but i have no complaints at all.

It goes thru frag plugs really easy. I haven't tried to frag anything with it but i did test it on some lr and it cut it pretty easy so i would recommend it. It was $69.99 at Home Depot.

I agree with these guys as far as the flex shaft is concerned. The flex shaft is a must, it will let you get into places that the dremel motor would not be able to acess.

More agreement on getting one with a cord. Most useful thing I have in my toolbox.

As far as attachements go, get the flexible shaft, diamond cutting wheel and I cant remember what the bit's name is but the diamond one that will allow you to cut glass.

Anyone know how to get an attachment out of the flex shaft that is stuck? I haven't been able to figure out how to disassemble the shaft to see what's going on "inside".

You can cut glass with a regular carbide tile cutting bit and will probably even last longer than a diamond bit.

i'd get a corded dremel or black and decker model. flex shaft and cheap diamond cutting wheels off of ebay.

i duno about u guys, but i got a foot pedal with mine. i hate switching it on and off. lol... but then again I got mine for free because i work at a place that uses them all day.

Get a REAL dremel, the flex-shaft, no extra junk.

Then search on ebay for the billion-part accessory kits for like $5.99, or mebbe Harbor Freight also. I believe the nearest harbor freight store is in Margate.

Yeah, the discs break - so? You get like 200 of 'em, and like 4 billion mounted sanding/grinding stones!

Also, check out Lowe's as they have awesome clearance sales also.

can you use the dremel to shape acrylic and stuff pretty easy?? Just planning for the future :). Definitely going to home depot and getting one, thanks guys!

DONT buy the harbor freight one. it is junk! i bought one to use solely at work, and it has barely any torque for cutting anything.
