Ah, I think I remember seeing that one in my angelfishes of the world book (I'm not at home so I can't check it) I think I also remember seeing a C. bispinosa x C. shepardii. So what are the chances of me being able to pair a small C. loricula with my current C. bispinosa? There have been flame coral beauty hybrids.

Yeah, my C. bispinosa I assume is male because it has been by itself for a while now and it it quite large. I will look for a small C. loricula.Actually I always assumed that centropyge hybrids were purely accidents, i.e. a bunch of flame angels are spawning together and a bunch of coral beauties are spawning together and somehow one ends up spawning with the other. I don't think they will spawn regularly together in a home aquarium the way a real pair of a single species would.
Good point, I never thought of it as happening like that. But what the hell, I'll try it anyway. :hammer:I doubt you will get a flame and coral beauty to "pair" because many people keep these fish together and yet we don't hear much if at all of anyone saying they have spawned. I think it would be cool to try though and think you should try! If you try I would get the largest healthy fish you could find of one species and the smallest of the other and see if you could pair them up.

Yeah I think I'll move the coral beauty into my qt while the flame gets comfortable. I think I'm going to order a small (1.5 inch) C. loricula tomorrow from BZ.I'm sure it's possible... flames and coral beauties are very closely related... both in the "bispinosa complex" of Centropyge, and I have seen coral beauties spawn with species outside of that complex... just be aware that the situation you're under is the toughest, with an existing large male. If you are going to attempt this it would be ideal to remove the coral beauty for a few weeks while the small flame gets adapted before introducing the coral beauty again...
