I have a 55 gal. and have been using Tropic Marin Bio-Calcium for the past 5 years. My CA level has been steady at 420-440 ppm with 2 heaping scoops each morning and one in the evening. I got to the point to where I did not even check my CA anymore, it was so steady. Well, okay now I have more corals, 2 monti's and the LPS are all growing nicely and others. I checked mt CA a few weeks ago and it hovers around 250 ppm and I'm adding more CA than ever and it does not seem to go up past 270-280. I even started useing Turbo Calcium, very sparingly at first and I'm slowly adding more and testing the CA. Besides the liquid method which is pricey, and I don't really have room underneath for a kalkwasser and C02, or reactor or pump. I'm trying to develop a method that is economical and does a good job, with low risk of melting the corals.
I was told that one method is to put the Turbo Calcium in an elevated container with R.O. and dripping it slowly with an IV tube roller thing which I have. But I only have a 55 gal which sometimes is not forgiving, and I'm sure the line can get clogged easily and would have to be adjusted often, risking certain coral death.
Is there a calcium product that is not reef tank related sold at Target? Any advice, threads you could pass along, anything would help. Thanks.
Also I should mention that I also add both Tropic Marin Magnesium and try to keep my dKh where it should be with Superbuffer. Thanks.
