Ca, Mg, KH depletion...

Hi everyone.

I have a 16g nano tank.

Inside I have 3 SPS frags.
One green staghorn, a blue staghorn and a stylophora milka. The two staghorns are about 3,5 inches with no branching, just "a horn". The stylophora milka is somewhat smaller of a regular pack of cigaretts.

I also have five LPS
A euphylia with 2 heads and a trachyphyllia about the size of a palm (without the fingers). Plus two acans that have about 6-8 polyps each and a favia with 6 polyps. Kinda like a golf ball...

So I was wondering how fast would these corals suck the Ca, Mg & KH out of the tank? Should I be dosing a 2-part system? Or would I be fine with regular weekly water changes?
I suppose I could do a months worth of daily water tests for these so I could determine the rate of the depletion but I currently do not have time since I am not home everyday to perform these tests.

Well good luck with the nano tank as I have seen some that are simply amazing. First of what are your levels now and if your checking your water weeklyn you can get a sense of the depletion rate that your tank consumes.

I would think with such a small stock list at this time water changes will be enough until the lps and SPS start to grow. But again unless your testing your water all this is really speculation.

Thanx for the reply.
I have the tank for about 8 months. But only recently added SPS corals. I have been very diligent with my water changes (weekly 20%). Nitrates, nitrite & ammonia are all 0. Ca, Mg, kh fall sittings acceptable range and temp is steady 25C. Salinity is 1.024,5. All other LPS that I have in the tank have all grown. But adding the SPS got me thinking it might be time to start dosing a two party system. Three corals are mostly hard skeleton after all. I suppose I will have to monitor my tank and stop speculating.
