Euro-Reef skimmer for our CADs?

Euro-Reef skimmer for our CADs?

Check out this thread:

I would totally be interested in a euro-reef skimmer for the CAD. Any opinions?

I'd also be interested in eliminating the glass pane between the 1st and second chamber when I move in July and open to try an interesting skimmer design. Any thoughts? Will the removal of that pane give me structural headaches?

hey guys.. just got my cag 39g. YAY.. what is that brown sticker over t5 light?? am i supposed to take it off? how ? i think i ended up scratching a lil bit on the side trying to take that brown thing out. pls help
--> another quick one. where do u have have ur heater? in the main display area? or water return area?

the brown stuff is just tape. if you need to you can unscrew one side to take the covers out and get it.

heater in the return area.

hey guys pls help me here. every thing was looking fine.. but i saw 2 problems. are u experiencing that too?
1. light doesnt mount properly. It keeps hitting the protein skimmer cup. even if i push protein skimmer cup all the way back, the front lets are just half on the aquarium rim.. am i doing something wrong?
2. my UV light has no plug, it has round end, seems like it needs to go inside an adapter. but my packet doesnt come with adapter. Did ur come ? what kinda adapter doest UV light go into>

hey does anyone use UV light that came with it?? it has no covers and emits white light outside. is that uv harmful to naked human eyes? are u guys using it? is it beneficial? (most of all, does that UV work? it looks diff from most UV in the market)?

Mine is in a box. UV units are usually sealed and I don't understand how this one works so I do the rational thing and don't use it.

Wow been a while since I've been in this thread. On the UV, same here, never used it as I wasn't quite comfy with doing so.

Since we need some more pics on here I took a couple the other day. Been struggling a bit to get my new dosers dialed in correctly so I had an unfortunate ALK swing. Colors are returning but its a slow process.

And the new baby (65g) that Eddie built for me.

How does the vortech do on the CAD?

I have the MP20 and MP10 on my 25 day old system and both are turned way down right now (about 1/3 power). Awsome wide flow. I just need to adjust a bit once some more livestock is added. I have mine on lagoon mode slightly softer than reefcrest mode.

I love the Vortech. That's an MP40 which is overkill for the tank and will ultimately move to the 65g. When I did my rock work originally I packed things a little tight and so I really appreciate the random strong flow of the Vortech to move things around. I only have it up perhaps 75% before water starts flying out of the tank. In such a small tank you need to be careful where you point it. I blew the flesh off a Monti and an Acro that I thought were out of the direct path but apparently not far enough.

reeftivo - Nice tank !!

Thanks Merfin70,

I hear ya regarding the Vortech! It took me a while to "convince myself" that 500 bucks was not too much to spend for 2 circulation pumps when there are so many cheaper options out there. The big things for me were heat transfer, versatility, overall look and performance. IMO the Vortech has all of them.

I'm trying to be patient (not easy!) and go slow with this tank and use my mistakes over the years as a learning tool to get things right the first time.

does anyone use the glass top it comes with to reduce evaporation? i tried using it but the black hinge (rubber ) part blocks the light on bottom of the aquarium. do u know if there is just flat glass top available or something with very very thin hinge?

what is the gallons in the display part of the tank
The tank by itself is 39 gallons. Combine that and the 12 gallon sump and it's 51 gallons total system capacity.

i was referring to the AIO 39, not the Pro. Sorry for the confusion.
