CAD 39g owners...

These are a few HOBs that I've tried on a couple tanks less than 40 gallons with medium bio loads: Reef octo DBH300f HOB recirc skimmer-OKAY, Bermuda rogue HOB-GOOD if you like the pump in the tank-poor if you mod it to work dry, Remora-crap!, Deltec MCE600-very good!, ATB Multi-awsome at first but needs a heavy bioload or frequent feeding to produce after that.

I will be posting here very soon as my 39G pro ships out today!!~! I am so stoked that I can hardly contain myself. I went 3 years out of the hobby and am very glad to be back. My wife use to complain about the money I spent on my 75G reef. But this time it was her idea for me to get the 39G. She said she realized how therapeutic my reef was for me. I also recently bought a new camera that is decent. 3.5 optical zoom (or somewhere around there) with 12MP. I am going to take a lens off of an old cd player and tape it over the camera's origional lens making a nice macro lens for the smaller stuff. So if anyone else has some more pics that I can drool over while I eagerly await my 39G pro from cadlights, please post them! There has got to be more people out there with a cadlight system.

I should have looked at the skimmer before putting it in the tank, now it is kinda hard to get to. Does the collection cup come off of the skimmer? If so, does it screw off? Does the shelf get in the way of taking the collection cup off? I didn't want to force the cup off if its not supposed to come off.

ItsMee,
The collection cup pulls right off. Just keep pulling until it pops off. Twisting may help it to come off easier. Once it comes off the first time it will come off easier. The cabinet shelf should not prevent you from getting it off. Here is a pic of a mod that I did to my cabinet shelf that I have found very helpful:

...also, note my cord management. I pulled everything out one hole and then I only brought back in a few cords that plug into my PC4 for my RKL.

That is awesome man. I am not very handy, how did you go about cutting the extra square in the shelf for the return line? (you don't have to answer that unless it wasn't already answered previously in this thread, I'll go look after posting this.) Looks very clean and there is a lot of room. I already pulled my DJ strips out and put them on the side of the stand - came to find out, where I first put put them underneath the stand was a horrible place.

I kinda cheated in that I know people who do custom cabinet building. I just showed them what I wanted done and they made the cuts for me.

I have heard that I will have issues with condensation keeping any electrical under the cabinet. I am considering adding a ventilation fan in the cabinet.

Hey there everyone. I'm new to this thread. I just wanted to chime in and say I will be joining the proud ranks of all you CAD owners. I ordered the 39g pro model last Thursday. I will be heading down to NYC to pick it up either tomorrow, or the next day. Haha when ever I decide would work best with traffic. I 95 can be murder if you hit it at the wrong time so I will try to work picking it up so it works out well with traffic. In the meantime I have been reading all the CAD threads I can find and trying to do some homework. I'm going to try to keep as much as I can pretty stock for now and really give it all a chance. I have read that the flow is lacking a little so might put in some extra circulation in there. I don't want to jump the gun though. I want to try to take this slow and enjoy it all. I don't want to rush this one, it looks like it's going to be a really fun system.

I see the return from the pump is about half way up the back wall of the tank.

What stops water flowing back out of the tank when the return pump is shut off?

If you are refering to the signature then when the pumps turned off the water in both the display and the sump chamber will equalize at the overflow.

The pro will only drain back to the sump to the level of the lowest return fitting.

Thanks reeftivo,

I missed the equalization at the overflow. Nice design to be able to have a return nozzle deep down in the display tank and not overflow the sump chamber when you turn off the pump.

10-4! I've seen many pics of the cad pros with both returns pointed down. Then the next pics they later post are all up at the surface. Wonder if they got wet then changed it:eek1:

Just checking to see if others are having to clean their skimmers like me everytime the mud gets disturbed. The skimmer must collect some of the fine silt on the coating inside and just stops skimming until I clean it. Just curious! No big deal, the mud seems to be working well.

Very nice pictures tiv0!!~!

I noticed you ditched the stock fuge light for one from the hardware store. Do you know the exact light you went with? I dropped mine in the water and fried it :(
