CADLight 8 gallon Build

I will be posting a build for it when it comes in so I'll be sure to document the addition of lights if I decide to do so. Id be interested to see what there par rating in the stock tank is.

Yea I would check to see if u need the tubing first. I bought the tubing from petsmart for a couple bucks. It's ur average airline tubing.
As far as adding lights. The only thing I have found is the auto led strips. U find them on eBay for like 5 bucks. I haven't tried them on this tank but I used two 12in strips on a 115g for moonlights and it was perfect.

How is the light fixture setup as far as power cords....is it able to be put on separate timers or are they all ran on one cord? Thanks.

Non I actually haven't even seen the tank in three weeks. I have a friend taking care of it. I hope it's golden when I come home lol

I just set my tank up yesterday night after moving into a new apartment. Using everything stock atm with black irrigation tubing for a more snug fit. Just added water early this morning and a few pieces of seeded rock to help start my rock since its all dry. Plan on ordering a mj 900 with the hydor flo also.

I'm planning for this to be a coral dominant (sps/lps) tank. I might add one small goby to add some life to the tank, but we will see.

To fix the low light problem, I'm building a new pendant for mine. It will be CNC cut out of 4" diameter aluminium round. The three 3UP CREE LEDs with a 2:1 ratio of Royal blue to neutral white as well as three turquoise should work nicely for a broad spectrum and plenty of PAR.This includes a built in heat sink, 60mm fan strapped on top and a quarter inch rim of solid aluminum wrapped around to keep it looking sleek. I also plan on getting it anodized black for aesthetics. Plan on building the drivers (lm3904) too. I'll try to draw up a build thread also for all of this of anyone is interested. Just need to finish ordering all of my parts to get the ball rolling.

Be sure to update asap :bum:. There's not enough threads or info on these tanks yet. Hope all is golden!

I have a quick questions for someone with experience with these corals sunset monti and alien eye chalice and the cadlight 8g led. i place the frag maybe 2/3 top of tank, will that be enough light or will it bleach the coral. Everything i read say this coral need low light but that under MH but i can't tell if the cadlight 8g light would be to low if place in the sand or to high if place on top? Dam wish i had a par meter.

Just watch the coral every day. They likely wont bleach instantly. Also, the PAR on this tank isn't as good as suggested. I think you could safely put them anywhere in the tank.

No real update here.
While I was gone I lost a couple fish. The hydor flo jammed and just blew current on the Kenya tree 24/7 and caused it to drop limbs everywhere. After a little bit of clean up everything's looking ok.
The goby is now front and center which is awesome! I love watching him and the shrimp.

Yeah, that's a real problem with those hydor flo units. A little bit of sand gets in there and it can jam up. Did you lose one of the firefish??

Fire fish and blenny
Yea the spin stream is better as a snail can't jam it up but they customer service sucks. The fittings for it split after a week and they wouldnt even send me new rubber fittings.

You love the what lol?

Here is how I'm using the fp28 I ripped the plastic off that hold the suction cups. Then used the 90 as posted early. The only pros to this method was I can't here the pump at all and it drops the pump lower.

the fungia plate. Little green thing in the front corner there.

I might switch out the 08 for the 28 this way. I've just been using a koralia nano and the 08, but whenever I turn of the koralia, the water just stops moving. That little pump is worthless.

Yea the 08 isn't worth anything.
The lil plate coral fits perfect in there right now lol. I have one in my 30g cube that has grown to about 8 inches across. I wonder how big they get?

very nice tank! I just got my girlfriends son a 5 gallon standard tank to make a nano reef for his bedroom. I wish I would have seen this thread before hand and talked her into a nice tank like that! I'm about 2 weeks in now and water is testing good. I had a ton of old rock to choose from after I tore down my larger tank so the scape came out pretty good. Hoping to add a couple snails and crabs this weekend!

Anyways, just wanted to give you some props on that nice clean tank. I love everything about it!

I really appreciate all the kind words! This tank defiantly needs more life. Im not really sure which direction i want to go with it yet. I'd love to see the 5g.

Yea, I'm a new member here... I actually purchased the tank after seeing your thread. I was having extreme difficulty finding the perfect tank that still provided room for some creative modifications like the CL 8g.

So I thank you for having such an awesome tank that inspired me to get my own. I'll post some pictures of what I do with it in due time.
