CADLight 8 gallon Build

Is the flow excessive with the 28? I'm using the 08 right now, and I still get good polyp movement. This is going to be a zoa and LPS tank, so I may stick with the 08 to avoid heat and sandstorm issues. I have a nice elegance that is doing very well under the LED's with a 12 hours of photo period. Just started getting some film algae though so I may dial back the light a few hours and see how the tank reacts.

Such a beautiful little tank! I feel like I'm staring at a nToTM, even though it's still a "baby"! Honestly though... 8g is pretty dang small for those fish.

8g is plenty for them as long as he keeps up with the water quality. As long as he keeps that in check, those fish will love it.

The 28 probably would be to much if connected just like the 08. I use a 90 and have the pump lower. The 90 restricts flow alot.

And thanks everyone! When I get back from vacation I'll be adding more corals to the mix.
The fire fish love the tank and practically eat from my hand. I've had zero nitrate/phosphate problems.
I spot clean the glass once a week right now.

I need more corals too! I just wish the light had a little more blue to it. My corals don't really pop in this tank like they do in my other tanks.

Austinchap and Luckedout,

Your tanks look great! I have been talking to Andrew at CADlights and after going over the list of items you had problems with and finding out how they fixed them I ordered one. I want to get some rock to aqua scrape the new aquarium. I do not see how much floor space I will have. Can you help? How much did you use?

Thanks

Steve

I went minimalist and used very little rock. I have maybe 5-6 lbs, but the rock is extremely porous. I'm sure I'll acquire more as I purchase corals.

I think the space you have in the tank itself is about 10"X12" of floor space.

I'm pretty sure you can get the tubing at Lowe's or HD.

There's very little advice I can offer for this tank, because it's so simple. That's the best thing about these little AIO tanks. Once you work out the kinks getting it setup, it's a great little tank.

The best advice would be to keep up on water changes. With so little water volume these tanks can take a dive if you aren't doing regular maintenance.

Oh and these LED's are fairly white. I would say it's comparable to a 10k bulb/look. Corals don't really pop under these lights, so when you go buy corals, be sure to look at them under a whiter light so you get a better idea. I bought a sweet rainbow mushroom at the LFS and in this tank it just looked blue, so I took it to my tank at home.

I actually just picked up some more sweet macro algae's that I'm pretty excited about. I'll get some better pictures up once they get a bit of time to adjust.

How the two clownfish in the 8g cadlight? I want to get two clownfish for my 8g cadlight too but not sure if it enough room for 2 clownfish.

The clown fish are doing just fine. They've only been in the tank about a month and I've noticed some nesting behavior, so they seem to be liking the tank quite a bit. I'm hoping they might start laying.

As far as adding lights.... I don't think there is room. The light fixture is pretty packed. It has 9 rows of LED's and 3 of those rows are royal blue. Some actinics would help, but I'm not sure how you would mount them.

I like the look of the light so I'm just working around the color output by livestock choice. Going for red, purple and oranges that look good under white light vs. blue and green's that just looks brown.

If theres a will then there s a way. I've got mine on the way so I'm hoping I can shove more blue in without taking away from the clean look.

I told CADlights that it seems very easy to separate the white and blue LEDs and offer a 2 way splitter and one Power adapter for those that want them together and offer an extra Power Adapter for those who want them separated.

Please post up on here how you manage to do it, because I would love to add more blue.

Flytrap, no idea on the size of that black tubing. Hopefully Austinchap checks back in, because it was his idea. I didn't put any tubing on mine. My tank is essentially a stock tank with just added flow from a koralia nano.
