CADlights 39g Pro build thread

Dose the foam extractor mechanically pull the foam/skimmate or does it use gravity to just allow the foam to continue along the tube?

It's gravity fed. The dry foam collects at the top of the extractor and is blown into the large diameter (40mm) tube where it falls to the collection container. It also reduces the diameter of the skimmer. The collection cup is a tight squeeze in the Cadlights sump. Removing the cup and replacing it with the foam extractor frees up a lot of space and increases the overall size of the reaction chamber allowing you to draw more air while still collecting drier foam.

What is your apex actually controlling?

What is your apex actually controlling?

Apex manages 2 tanks (DT and FT)

Temp (Apex primary, heater thermostat secondary)
ORP (Monitors and alerts/alarms)
2X MP40s (ReefCrest and anti-sync via WXM module)
2-Part dosing (2X BRS Peristaltic pumps, based on seconds of run time with pH limiters)
Hyperflow 20H return pump (feed and Mx cycles)
Skimmer (feed and Mx cycles)
Dual BRS Reactor with GFO/ROC (Feed and Mx Cycles)
2X EVO 1400 (Alternating current, Feed and Mx Cycles)
Sump LED (Reverse lit for pH support)
Fan (although rarely used since LED upgrade)
Power Failure - Turns off lights in the event a power failure and notifies me via text and email. (tanks, router and cable modem on UPS.)
Fail safe for Osmocontroller Kalk/ATO (pH limiter)
Pending - AquaIllumination LEDs as soon as Apex VDM module ships

Question: I am building my stand now and in the directions i found online it says something about not installing a foot at front center because there is no support and will warp. Where do all of the feet go? I just dont want to screw this up!

Looking good buddy! Is that flex tubing off the extractor smooth inside? If not, then you may want to swap it out for smooth vinyl because those suckers will collect the solids in the ridges and start giving off that wonderfull H2S egg odor after a while. I ran only drain flex from my 120 into a fuge many moons ago and the sludge build up in that thing was sick. I can only imagine what build up you would get from a skimmer.

Looks like that 9011 is going to be perfect for you!!!! Awsome!!!

On another note, I've ordered a 250 watt lumenmax 3 pendant and will run it with a dimmable lumatek 250 ballast. Should arrive in a few days and I'll be using a 250 watt phoenix 14K DE bulb. Looking forward to more light but not the electric bill. I'm still tossing a little at a time into the LED fund but I need more light now and had some extra cash-thus the trigger was pulled (-:

Happy Reefing

Hi buddy,

Just put the feet at the four corners directly beneath the corners of the attached sides. The feet will settle a bit with the weight of the tank and if you have the center foot attached with out the center support (signature series only-no sump), the center foot won't settle with the weight and will slightly warp the bottom upward and has created problems closing the doors.

Hope that helps

Tivo

There should be tiny pre-drilled holes (may be hard to see) at the corners where they go. Feel for the indentations and you should be able to locate them.

Thanks! I didnt see pre drilled holes for the feet, but I figured the 4 corners. I just didnt know what to do with the extra. Just toss it i guess?

Mine had the holes drilled but the vinyl coating covered them. I could feel the tiny indentations under the vinyl and mounted them there.

The extra one still can be put to use as long as you have a hockey stick-LOL!

Made some changes to my scape. My Brother doesn't like it but I do. It opens up the front of the tank and gives me much better flow than I had before. My flow was great before but it was very concentrated in some areas where it limited me on what I could place in the system. I also removed 15 pounds of LR and an inch of bed. I've finally achieved the low nutrient level I was looking for (only took 7 months-whew!). I've been reading 0-PO4 and ) 0-nitrates consistently for several days now with my hanna's so I'm excited. I've had good coloration but limited growth until the last several days where my tip growth has increased quickly. Hopefully when my new lighting arrives, I will have an explosion. Time will tell.

Here are a few pics

I donated my purple caps and a few acros to a fellow reefer because of over growth. The purple caps were a pain because they grew too fast.

Looks awesome reeftivo! I have to agree with you, I like the newscape. I wonder how the removal of 15 lbs of live rock and inch of live sand will affect your bio.

Hey guys,

Any issue with going without the legs and just leaving it flat on the ground?

Also, after building the stand I have the panel with hole in the middle of it left over. That is normal right? I think that piece is only for the sig series? Does that make sense?

I too prefer your current aquascaping to your older pictures.

Looking good!

CalmSeasQuest's tank makes most commercial aquariums look low tech :)
LOL - In comparison to many, my tank is not really that "high tech." Much of my automation is mandated by the fact I travel so much and don't have anyone at home capable of detecting/handling issues that might arise. Most of the functions are basic through any controller, I spent a bit more time developing backups and fail-overs to try and ward off the impact of inevitable failures. There are many that have developed far more complex systems including automating water changes, RO/DI water makeup, saltwater makeup, skimmer cleaning, with safeties including measuring salinity, multiple water levels, dissolved oxygen, multiple web cams and water on the floor detection... Any/all of which can then trigger an email or text alert.

One additional benefit of having a controller with web access - I instantly know when the nanny is playing with the home thermostat - Even from half way around the world. She still hasn't figured out how :jester:

Made some changes to my scape.
Tank looks beautiful RT  I'm constantly reminded how much patience this hobby/obsession requires. Changes need to me made in tiny increments and take months to show their true effect. My tank has been up for 13 months, and I am guessing I'm still at least 6 months away from a point where I think I will have leaned all the nuances and reached stability (assuming I stop making changes :spin1:) - and that's with using a great deal of technology to provide additional data/insight.

The legs place the load over the parts of the stand designed to carry it, but if your floor was perfectly flat and level, I think it would be fine to go sans legs. (just my guess - not an engineer.)

It's been a while, but I don't recall having any left-over parts from the stand build other than the the shelf? (it has a large square hole but its off-center.)
