CADlights 39g Pro build thread

Thanks everyone! Cadlights Rocks!
Of the 6 brands of tanks I've had over the years, this by far has been the most beautiful in terms of build, strength and overall clean look. My neighbor has an oceanic 50 gal cube and an elos 160 $$$$$ in his house and he likes the look of the CAD better than both. He said that the smooth curves are more appealing to him than the box look. Can't lie, it made me feel pretty darn good about my purchase!!!
+1 - Looks Great RT!

Tom,

Tom, did you raise the AI fixture yet?

More frags on the way so I'll get pics up soon!

Has anyone else tried the ESV Seawater system? I've been using NSW and Oceanpro plus mix for a long time but just recently tried this stuff based on the ESV reputation. It takes more time because you have to measure everything out individually but "WOW"! I think I'm staying with this from now on. It dissolves almost immediately with no residue and is ready to go fast. I usually aerate for 24 hours but this stuff says its ready to go after an hour of aerating. The perams were perfect the first time out for me and I'm very impressed (sg 1.25,dkh 9, Ca 440). I just followed the instructions and walla! The kit even gives you all the measuring cups and beakers.

I have'nt seen any reviews of it but it is pretty cheap so I thought I'd give it a go.

Tivo

NSW??? We don't have that in Michigan ;) Nope - just plain ol RC for me and my critters.

I Picked up a bunch of SPS at a local Frag swap - A couple of really stunning pieces including ATL Shades of Fall, ATL Purple Kryptonite, ATL Strawberry Fields, ORA Pearlberry, ORA Red Plant and Candlelight Acro. (The Candlelight is nuclear yellow w/bright yellow polyps and vivid blue tips - it's amazing) BUT...

It seems my AI's were a bit too much for my RBTA and it decided to go for a stroll. Luckily, it relocated to the substrate just below where it was and didn't wreak too much havoc <whew.>

The CO2 scrubber has been a huge success - so much so it's almost too much. I created a thread about the scrubber and included some interesting ALK/Ca/CO2 charts at http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1770299

Also set up a dual BRS reactor for GFO and AC. It's much easier to maintain and adjust than the smaller, single reactor.

All-in-all, the tank's progressing nicely - I'll grab a few pics in the next few days once the dust settles from the additions.

accurate charts based on my perams. thanks for posting them.

How long is your media lasting in the CO2 reactor?

Re: NSW, My LFS was able to get NSW from the Scripps Institute down in San Diego and have it delivered to them. Good stuff but it is at NSW levels so I have to supplement a bit to get my numbers up. I've used IO and ReefCrystals like you and had a couple of very low alk and Ca batches . I got spooked and went to Ocean pro plus but it's expensive and takes forever to dissolve. I would stay with the NSW but it's .80 per gallon and it doesn't like to sit on standbye like synthetic.

No sign of any color change yet in the media. At the volume of air moved by the Bubble Magnus, I think the media will last many months.

Of course your nuclear powered air movers would probably exhaust it quickly ;)

Here's a FTS - The AIs are set to 45%

Looks like you did pretty well at the frag swap in lansing. You tank looks fantastic. I'm interested to see the look once you hang the AI fixtures.

Also......looks like you're slowly outgrowing your tank.

Thanks Chris,

I've learned you can't keep everything in a 39 gallon tank. It's way too crowded (and I'm still hunting for a few special things.) I'm going to sell much of it to focus on SPS and just a FEW select Zoas, Acans and softies in the darker spots.

I'm planning a 72X24X20 rimless tank - But I just haven't had time to move it forward. I also decided, every new reefer should be taught to place their first tank in their 2nd or 3rd most favorite spot in their home...This avoids having to tear down and move your first tank to accommodate the inevitable upgrade(s) to a larger tanks. :jester:

new pic of my sump (i just cleaned out my skimmer collection cup for the first time since installing!). note my out-the-wazoo chaeto.

New Tunze 6025 installed on my back wall -- thanks Tivo!!

injury from Tunze magnet, over a week after it happened. blood blister is healing nicely, at least! unfrigginbelievable how strong that magnet is. i had to pry it apart with kitchen knives to get them apart (after the first mishap, i got a little gunshy):

Looks great Tim -

I like your white board idea - Think I'm gonna steal it :lol2:

That gate is plastic right? in the pic it almost looks like metal

I love your Jawfish - I'd love to have one but I refuse to put a cover on the tank. I picked up a new Macro lens (Tamron 90mm) hoping it might improve my dismal photographic skills. Still learning, but here' a few livestock pics...

Wow everything looks great you guys. I haven't changed anything in my tank for months now and am getting jealous LOL. There are a couple big events in the next couple of months here in CT. We have a frag farmers market which is huge and then CMAC which is like MACNA but for the north eastern US so I have been hording all my pennies for those two events, but I have been feeling the itch for sure. Other than a couple of local trades with buddies I havent bought anything. I did get a very cool Aussie Montie that have never seen, a local reefer is a SUB commander so brought some stuff home from his last trip out. It is in a bit of shock right now but I think it's pulling through and will be unreal once it is happy again. A sub isn't the best place to keep corals lol but it worked. Be careful with packing a lot of corals in such a small space, you can't test for allelopathy or even see it but the effects can be killers on some species of corals.
Tim what happened to your slimer? I see you moved things around, is it hiding and I just can't see it in the photo?

Oh off hand does anybody know the size of the PVC pipe in the back of the overflow? The one that drains to the sump. I want to replace it I think. Also does anyone know the size of the the two hoses in the sump? I want to replace those too. I'm not at home right now so can't meassure but want to pick some up on my way home. I'm out of town a few days but will be driving by a hardware store on my way home and want to pick up stuff to change them all out.

it's convenient -- but, make sure you put it on the left side if you're right-handed (this was a mistake i made, hence why i'm writing vertically!)

yes, it's plastic -- it's kind of a bronze color. not sure why. but, it's definitely PVC.

I love your Jawfish - I'd love to have one but I refuse to put a cover on the tank.

it's a great fish -- the top is annoying, though. i'm still working on a better solution. but, you definitely need the lid. i hear my jawfish jumping up into the lid at night.

I picked up a new Macro lens (Tamron 90mm) hoping it might improve my dismal photographic skills. Still learning, but here' a few livestock pics...

pics are looking good -- are you using a tripod? what kind of camera/settings are you using?

it's still in the same spot - this is just a picture of the left side to show the placement of the Tunze 6025, so the slimer is hidden by a rock. you can kind of see it at the top of the picture (but i had just irritated the corals, so the polyps are all retracted on both corals in this picture).
