Cadlights 50G Artisan Cube Tank Build Thread

First of all your tank looks great. If you don't mind I would like to know what you think of the set up I am getting ready to buy as well as what you would do diffrently (if anything) equiptment wise if you were to start over. The set up I'm considering is:

Cadlights Artisan 50
Cherrywood stand
24" full LED system w/control w/lamp tree
Bubble-Magus Nac-6
Standard sump & plumbing
Stock return pump
Eco-Tech MP10

I would like to figure out some sort of top off system that would fit in the stand but am not sure if that will work. Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your list looks good. What corals do you plan on keeping? I am not sure about the performance of the Cadlights controllable LED fixture. I have heard mixed things about it but if you are only going to have lps and softies it should be ok.

As for fitting a top off reservoir in the sump, I am not sure that is such a good idea. There is barely any room left in the stand after you put the sump in. If you do manage to fit a reservoir in their it won't be very large and you will probably have to fill it up every day anyway. Water evaporates a lot from this tank since it is rimless and open top.

Good luck!

The stocking list is still undecided but it will include some SPS. Supposedly the LED they sell is equivalent to a 250w MH? What other set up would you recommend? Do you think it is still too early to trust LED's.

Hey Richard, I finally got around to setting up my CAD50. I built a custom cabinet and sump/refugium. I went with the AI Sol Blue LED fixture for lighting.

I moved corals and livestock from my old JBJ 28 HQI into the tank.

Nice tank. I'm starting a 40 artisan I just picked up today from Eddie. Since they all sold out, he made me a custom furniture grade cabinet instead of the usual mdf. Wish me luck. A build thread might follow

No no I think LEDs are generally good and have been proven to be suitable lighting for reefs. The issue is the components of the LED fixture. A lot of people still don't seem to understand this. You can make a totally cheap LED fixture that won't be able to provide enough PAR for corals or you can make a high quality one with top notch components that can provide more than enough light.

As for the cadlights controllable fixture they don't really say what components they use and I have heard from other people that their claims of performance are not justified. But I dunno because they don't list their components...

Very nice! Great job with the stand! Do you have a build thread?

Sweet, upgrading is always nice! You should definitely post a build thread! I still haven't seen your current tank yet.

So for this tank what would you reccomend as far as a LED fixture goes?

I like the AIs but it really depends on what you are doing with the tank and what your budget is.

From what I've seen and read I would need 2 AIs for this tank. Cost aside I'm not sure if I can get past the look. I was hopeing to find something that blended with this setup a little better.

One AI is enough, see the pictures of my tank earlier in this thread. I would say at the very top of the tank at the extreme front and back the light is weaker, but I would not use two fixtures. I have my light 12" above the water and run the lights at about 65% maximum.

Thegrun knows what he is talking about. I see a lot of people "pimping" out their tanks with more light and more flow than the corals actually need. I think it's more an obsession about having more than it is a consideration for the health and well being of the corals.

You won't regret it these tanks are really nice!!! I'm cycling mine now and saving up for my mp10w es!

And any updates on this setup? Or anything that you'd change or do differently?
