Calcium Reactor Chips causing nitrate?

At the moment my levels of nitrate are at 50ppm not exactly perfect i know, Nothing is suffering and colours are great but anyway.

Can Calcium reactor chips when used as a substrate add to the bacteria that fuels Nitrate, Im taking it all out as i think its whats causing this high reading, What do you think?

No. Nitrate comes from the process of decay/the nitrogen cycle.It does not stick to surfaces like phosphate does. The chips may trap decaying material,but as long as you keep them clean they will not contribute nitrate.
