Calcium reactor media contamination. Any links or info?

Yesterday, a reefer whom I greatly respect, mentioned that some noted aquarists question the safety of using reactor media. In particular he claimed that much of the reactor media sold today is loaded with possibly dangerous impurities. Sadly, after 6 years of successful reef keeping I have recently been hit with an unexplainable loss of several acropora colonies. My list of suspects include ROWAPHOS, an aging DSB, and now reactor media effluent contamination.

1) Does anyone have links to other threads discussing the issue of reactor effluent impurities?

2) Is there someplace where I could send a sample of my effluent for a thorough analysis? (I recognize that this would be an expensive proposition but I would gladly pay.)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Man, I remember reading a thread about this same issue not too long ago. I believe it was on the Chemistry Forum. You might want to post over there. Jdiek and Boomer could probably shed some light on the Ca Reactor Media question.

Sorry to hear you have lose some of your corals !
