Calcium Reactor selection
For a 300g total water system, dominated by SPS, what would be the Brand of calcium reactor one would choose, and WHY???

This is what I have narrowed it down to:

1. Deltec
2. Geo
3. Korallin
4. MRC

Keep in mind I am looking for ease of use and longevity with minimal failure if any.

TIA

I would choose the Geo. I own one and its well made and easy to use. I also know the Deltecs to be hightly rated here on the boards..

I own 3 Geo products of Calcium Reactor, Kalk Reactors and media reactor and never had a problem with any of them.

How easy are they to dial in???

And have you ever had a different reactor to compare it against??

It was the first one I ever hooked up and dialed in and it was really very easy. Once the regulator was set it was ready to run on its own.
I`m actually going to a bigger tank and am looking to upgrade to a larger GEO unit for it.

Its the only one I ever hooked up and bought. I was given the recommendation by fellow RC members here for it at the time. I dont have any use of any other model to compare it to.

Schurans are tough to get here in the states.

I have a Geo and love it. Took about a week to get it dialed in but I never touch it. I check my Ca and Alk once a week when I do a water change and they are spot on. Two good friends of mine in my reef club have 300g tanks and both use the Geo-624 with great success.

I've touched my GEO 618 twice in the last 7 months. It ran out of gas about a month ago, and refilled the media in the chamber last week. They are pretty much set and forget with only minor adjustments as your system demands grow or diminish. Never having touched a calcium reactor in my life, it only took a couple of days to get it set perfect. There are a number of calculators out there to help you adjust based on your parameters.

I also have the Kalk and Media chambers. Zero issues with any of them.

I have a korallin and.. if I didn't buy mine used and got a KILLER deal I probably would have went with a different brand. i haven't had any problems, but the directions might as well be printed in german... haha

If you are going to have the high demand associated with SPS, then go with a bigger reactor. I've hit the wall with my 618 in my 400 gallon system. Now I need to replace it and it is less than 2 years old.

Geo 618

Geo 618

Untamed12 --- what are you moving up to a Geo 818 ? I am setting up a 540 gal and the last think I need is a Cal reactor I was going with a H&S however I do not have the heigth under my tank so I was leaning to the 818 model.

Love my Geo, extremely well built and has never had any issues
and they are a sponsor here!!!
