Calculating the volume of a triangle?

Its been a while, but I am trying to figure out how big a triangle tank would be in gallons. It is going to be a corner tank and the front is going to be 5' long, the sides 30'' wide and 30" tall. If someone could help me out and show me how you got it I would appciate it, Thanks.:rollface:

volume of a triangle is:

Base mulitplied by the height

product is divided by 2 or multiplied by one half

Take any side of the triangle and take a perpendicular line to the opposite angle, multiply it and divide by 2.
Example

A triangle doesn't have volume, it's 2 dimensional. J/K, I know what you mean, just being a PITA

If it's a corner tank, its base is a right triangle, 2 sides are 30" each?

30 X 30 = 900, divided by 2 = 450 sq inches

Multiply this by the height, (X 30) = 13500 cub inches

If you want volume, just plug all 30's into the RC calculator, and divide by 2.

(PS: Are you sure the values you gave are correct? Because if the side lengths are correct--the ones that go against the wall-- then the front should be the hypothenuse. With each side of this right triangle being 2.5 feet, there's no way the hypothenuse could be 5 feet.)

you mean triangular prism right? a tryangle is a plane figure with an area not volume. base (one of the legs) times its hight (square root of: one leg squared minues half of one leg squared) assuming its an equaladeral triangle.
