Calibrate temp probe?

I usually go to a box store and look at all the glass float therms. Pick the one that displays the avg temp between them all and calibrate to that.

You can also fill a cup full of ice and some water and calibrate to that... at least that is how we did it in chemistry class I am remembering correctly.

I run a Octopus 3000 controller on my tank and i've invested in Pinpoint Conductivity, PH and Temperature probes to double check my Octopus 3000. I know it may be overkill but it's just peace of mind for me. It's important for ME to get an accurate temperature probe with at least 1 decimal resolution. The Pinpoint temp probe is inexpensive and has a the resolution i need.

If it's full range give it an ice bath. Just fill a container full of ice, top off with water, wait 10 minutes and you'll have an improv standard very close to 33F. Say +/- 0.5F .

It has the resolution, but it may or may not be accurate. The only sure way I know of is to buy a calibrated thermometer. I did.
