calling all big tank owners need ure help and ideas

tattooreef: I disagree. Each installation has its own needs, but many very high quality reef keepers are using Penductors for flow. Joseph Weatherson uses Penductors on his closed loops with virtually zero distance involved. I don't see any flesh peeling away in his tank.

The whole point of the eductor is to multiply flow. It's like getting 3 pumps for the price of one. Sure I wouldn't point one directly at a coral, but there are always positioning options. For instance, having one in each opposite corner pointing along the length or the tank will create a very nice flow pattern, especially when mixed with other types of flow devices.

jnarowe i do agree that having high pressure in opposite corners pointing along the length of the tank would be very nice , and as long as aquascaping allows having it flowing through the rest of the tank could be very nice as long as its not "beating up " any of the corals it would be awesome but like you said you would need to mix with other types of flow devices. but as far as an overall pump without having to supplement flow, me personally i would stick to low pressure high volume, not to argue with you because looking at your tank list and all that you obviously have alot of experience , that s just my personal opinion that has worked for me throughout the years

eductors require a pressure rated pump to drive them. they are especially useful for a sump return because they cause backpressure on the pump that reduces flow through the sump, however they increase flow in the display by pulling in surrounding water. the backpressure requires a pump that can drive them, dart, barracuda and hammerhead are not well suited. the marlin would be a better choice. I use a Pan World 250 which runs 4 eductors on my sump return, which is 60 ft from my display. I think they provide excellent random flow and no moving parts, nothing to clean!

this may help understand it

Jnarowe,
So you are saying that you could not use a eductor with a Sequence Dart or Barracuda Pump?

No, you can use them with those pumps, but you do not get the full benefit. And when using them on return lines, you have to be careful it does not reduce flow through the sump too much, as it did in my case. Because I gravity feed my skimmer, the throug sump flow reduction was too great and I had to take them off.

With a Marlin, that probably would have not been so significant.

I would assume that using a SCWD device would be a definite NO with a Pressure Bias Pump??

Am I correct??

I wanted to use one of these devices to help create more random flow.

That system looks really nice, however the only issue with that is I really was looking to remove power heads, and it is my understanding that this system requires them.

I was planning on plumbing my return using 3/4" or 1" and utilizing penducters at the ends to increase flow, and use something for random flow.

Any other suggestions?

I believe the wavysea plus can simply be installed at end of your return, then the eductor would attach to the output of the wavysea plus
