Calling all equipment junkies!!!! Input needed

As the plans go forward for the new tank, I am in need of opinions of what I can salvage from my existing setup. I know I need to replace and add some equipment, so lets go one at a time

1. Skimmer- I know I need a good high end skimmer with the system setup I need. Where is the best place to get one? What should I be looking for in one? Any and all opinons needed. Total water volumn once its completely done is going to be around 600-650 gallons.

2. Calcium reactor- I have a Korallin C-1502 reactor. I really dont want to spend the money to upgrade as this is only 6 months old, but Im afraid it wont be able to handle the demand. Ideas?

3. Lights- I have a aquascape with 5 MH in it. The fixture is 6 ft long, same size as new tank. Problem is I think one possibly two of the lights will be over the eurobracing, which I cant have. Im thinking I might be able to adjust the lights inside the hood, or just take a bulb out from one end and run it with 4. These sockets are 250 DE and 150 DE. But for the back part of this tank I am going to need lights also so what would be a good compliment to what I already have, or do I sell what I have and put something else up (not preferable)

As I have never followed equipment, any info is more than welcome

Thanks all

Clark

Buy Dave's skimmer...problem solved.

Calcium Reactor...a tough one, you could crank it up and run a rich effluent but may run into ph issues...better to upgrade it I would think.

Lights...gut the fixture and place them where you want them.

Yeah I was thinking that for the fixture. The fixture was nice when it was in the front room, but who cares when its behind a wall.

Dave's skimmer is gone :(

Still torn on the reactor

Thanks for the input though!

Check out the schuam jetstream one calcium reactor .I have one and love it . Chad Farmer also has one ask him what he thinks .

I have a 1502 laying around with a regulator and extra media-all you would need is a Co2 container and a small MJ feed pump. It is rough looking but does not leak and it works! You could run two and it would be alot cheaper than buying a new schuran. PM me if you are interested-it will be cheap!

for that size tank you would need a schuran jetstream 2

skimmer i know fade32 was talking about getting a bigger one

I think you oughta do a tiny might skimmer- Chad and I are talking about building one for Fade- That thing pulls as much air as a Deltec AP1004 and shouldn't cost more than $1000 to build...

Is you guys could talk Chad's slacker azz into CNCing the pieces for the skimmers we'd we able to throw these things together in no time- Calcium reactor included. There's no way in hell that tiny Schuran is going to keep up with a 600 gallon system without having to pop it and refill it constantly. Plus, for the price of a Jetstream 2, you could have a much larger one based on the shuran 2 that you'd never have to mess with....

LOL I think he wants a quieter one. Weighing my options here. The idea of two 1502's in theory seem like they would handle the load.

Skimmer I think is going to be the biggest challenge

ETSS 1400 dual tower Professional protein skimmer. Made by AEtech-see there website online. I paid $1600 new. It is new in the two boxes with all parts connectors and instructions. Have two other and purchased this item as a back up 5 years ago and never used it. I have never had any problems with my others after 8 years of contiuous use. Now is your chance to own one of the best commercial protein skimmers new in the box for way below new price.

I use mine on a timer for my 8000 gallon system and only need it for 2 hours a day. It is narrow and 48 inches tall. You need a 3/4 to 1 HP pump to run it but I have a two HP pump that runs it and my whole system. 1 1/2 in and 2 inch out. Removes protein waste and phosphates. Increase gass exchange to eliminate CO2 and increse O2. Very easy to clean-no tools required. Very stronge and durrable. Good luck bidding.

I didn't want to be a pessimist here but I was thinking the same thing. What is your price cap? It's tough to offer any guidance without knowing that....
