i am setting up my g3 skimmer tonight in my sump. i have a 29 gallon glass sump. i was wondering do i have to set the skimmer on anything or just sit it on the bottom of the tank.

i bought this skimmer used so no instrutions. i have not done anymods to it yet. as far as adjusting it you just adjust the height of the out put pipe right.

this is the first nice skimmer i have had i have been running a red sea berlin skimmer and have had a lot of trouble with it.

any tips would be helpfull

Just set it on the bottom. One thing I did was glue a bunch of old suction cups on the bottom to absorb vibration. it does help a lot. Yes the riser tube is how you adjust the foam height but I would use the gate valve, it makes it so much nicer.

Mine is sitting on a base so it's in about 8-10" of water. Set the riser tube so it's about even with the bottom of the cone then adjust it as necessary after it's run in for a bit.

Do the gatevalve mod - it's more than worth it.

Where does everyone have their set to? I have to have my bubbles basically at the top of the cone to even get pushed over. If I set it any lower, it never make skim really. So, I'm forced to skim wetter. I can't seem to find a happy medium

I am about 2" below the top of the neck but mine is recirculating with the gate valve, I get nice dry skimmate.

So about like this?

No...2" below the top of the collection cup neck. If you have it that low you will never collect anything except a dirty skimmer body. :D

I have mine right below the top of the collection cup like you but it skims to wet for my liking. Mine is basically where the green line is.

skimmate depens on a lot of factors

run the new skimmer in warm water for a little and throw it in the tank. move the riser to the lowest position give it a few days to break in. than if you want dry skimmate leave it there. if you want wet skimmate raise it till how you want the skimmate

You should be getting skimmate that looks like this. This is about 30 hours production on the 125. It is a good idea to run a cup of hot R/O water through the airline tube weekly to keep it clean.

Justin, do you mean the water line or the bubble level?

I've played with mine for hours and can't seem to get something steady even after a 24 hour period...I'm having to have my bubbles to where they are 1-3 inches below the very top where they overflow...I have the gate valve mod and plan on the recirc. somewhat soon
