calling all zoa keepers

I got my first zoa. frag, a 20 polyp frag of fire and ice zoas at the c-swap. Since then I have not seen much growth (maybe a polyp or two). I have them in the top third of my tank in moderate flow, I get good color out of them and they are always open. I was wondering this being my first zoa, and wanting to add more if this is normal growth rate or is it lacking? Is there anything I can do to speed growth rate? Should I remove them from the frag plug and attatch to a rock? Any help and advice is appreciated. Thanks Brandon

well i got some and i glued mine to a rock about 3weeks ago and it was two small heads now it is six 1 huge 2 large 3 small so maybe a rock helps

move them down. IMO your halides are roasting them.

keep them low I keep all mine on the bottom and they grow fine.
I have one frag disk that's completly covered, so it's nothing to do with rock.

if they are rattling around they will grow slower.....

i have heard that it may take a few months for corals to start to grow in a new tank.
you could also try to dose vitamin c
maybe some amino acids

each aquarium has unique characteristics that make it very difficult to give a broad answer to.

If you are getting good color then you are not "roasting" them. if they are secure to the rock and open with good color then growth will follow but it very well may be slow at times. This will be more the case the first few months.

Many zoa keepers do dose vit C but not all and it is unclear as to how well it works on all variants.

my honest advice is to leave them be.

Put them closer to the sand, mine are at the bottom and have exploded with polyps

Like Dave said, its hard to make a broad statement. Some zoas like lower light, some like medium light, and others, like caribbeans, like to be blasted with light. Flow is also a variant with some liking medium flow and others liking higher flow. Also some zoas grow quickly and some grow slower. Research the fire and ice morph for ideal conditions, if you are sure that is what you have. Post a pic if you have one of the colony. Then put it where others having success with that morph say they have theirs, and leave it alone. The more zoas are moved around, the longer it takes them to take off and start growing.

I lowered them last night and although they have always opened today they looked bigger than usual, so they may like the bottom however its only been a day. I am going to try the vit c. However I think alot of their problem has been me. I have yet found the "perfect spot" therefor they have found themselves in about 3 differnt spots. I have decided to just glue the frag plug to a large rock that is going to be a zoa rock. Thanks for all the help and I am still going to do some research on the fire and ice morph just so i can make sure they will be happy.
