Camera for Christmas?

Will you guys help me pick out a camera for my boyfriend?
I know he wants to take pictures of our tank and be able to adjust the white balance manually. He likes canon and nikon brands.
We can't go out and get a deluxe 1000$ camera so I was thinking a decent one for around 150$. 9MP or higher. Mainly for taking pictures of the reef tank.
This would be so helpful to me and I wouldn't have to tell him before Christmas what I got him.
Thanks!

I suppose not if I can get more bang for the buck.
EDIT: Ok, so I have looked at few and figured out that body only means I need a lens.
Should I get one of those macro lens'? I read about them somewhere.

For $150 it will be hard to find a dslr and a macro. U better off getting a decent point and shoot with macro capabilities like a nikon s9000 series or something

For that price range, I'd probably look into something like one of the Canon Powershot G-series cameras. It's still going to be well over $150, though, unless you can pick up an older, used model. An SLR with a true macro lens is going to be far more expensive, though. The macro lens alone is going to run $400+. Now, you could always just get one of the consumer brand DSLRs with a kit lens and you'd have the option of getting better lenses in the future, but $150 is still going to be a serious limitation. Even the entry level cameras are going to be over $500.

Your lens means everything. Keep the pumps off, the lighting right, catered with a great lens, you've got amazing shot potential.

I believe majority of the cameras out now can probably adjust white balance. But dont quote me on that.

All of the entry level SLR/Micro43 cameras are way over the 500$ price range.

If i were you i would definitely look into investing in one of those cameras if you can. If not you can get like maybe the Canon ELPH 110 HS. Nice little pocket camera that takes great pics.

Yeah, camera shopping is no picnic. I have decided to increase the amount of spending money!! HAD TOO!! lol
I want a good camera, I am liking the Canon.

Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / 400D 10.1 MP Digital SLR Camera/lens: EF-S IS USM 17-85mm

Canon EOS Digital Rebel / 300D 6.3 MP Digital SLR Camera/ lens: EF-S II 18-55mm

Any opinions?
