Camera recommendation?

Hi guys....been perusing around in here and enjoying the photos.

I'm looking for recommendations for a camera that would have the dual purpose of allowing me to take some decent macro shots of my reef tank and also serve as the family point and shoot camera for whatever family event is going on at the time. Would need to be fairly simple to use, both the camera and software. Looking for something probably less than $400. I've seen a couple on here mentioned by Canon, I think something like the S2 and S3 or something like that. Also a Sony model was noted. I currently have a Nikon Coolpix which I forget the number of right now, but I believe it is now a discontinued model. I try to get good pics using the macro mode, tripod, and timer, but they still come out not too great. I want to be able to get really nice, clear, colorful shots in my tank up close. Anyone be able to give me some ideas? I may even consider going up in price a little bit if it makes that much of a difference. thanks

The Canon S2 IS is a very nice camera for that price-point. The S3 is its big brother and is also a great camera. Gives you multiple options for both manual and auto. Can't go wrong with either one (and that should say something since I'm primarily a Nikon/Fuji guy).

The Canon S2...just the camera...at www.bhphotovideo.com is about $294. The S3 (which I would say to go for) is $349 or you can get the S3 with a small accessory pack for $429 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...229&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation (I would recommend that one).

Also consider feel. If you can, go somewhere and handle the cameras to see what feels comfortable for you. No sense in buying a camera if you hate to use it.

Good luck with the shopping!

Thanks! Cool little flip out picture viewer screen on the back. You think that bonus pack is really worth the extra almost 80 bucks? Nice looking camera. Would that get me decent macro shots and not need any extra lenses or anything to do it? thanks again.

Anyone have any reef macro shots using the Canon S3 IS just "straight out of the box", no add ons, just the camera by itself?

Well, considering that it does include a larger memory card that you're probably gonna need to buy anyway yeah I would think it might be worth it.
