Just wondering what everyone is using to take pictures with since I'm currently looking into buyn a camera and macro lens.

any of the dslr's will work. the one difference is third party len's and extras. easier to find for Nikon and Canon. I use a Nikon D300 and Sigma 150 2.8 macro. corals should be pretty easy as they don't move but fish are much easier with off camera flash.

I'm thinking of getting either the cannon ti3 or ti5. I guess the lens is the part I'm unsure of. What are good third party macro lenses or if anyone has any links to them would be appreciated.

I have an old (1982) Cannon AE-1 SLR camera and tons of lenses/filters and such. I haven't used it in about 10 years. Does anyone know if the old lenses that fit this camera will work on the new Cannon DSLR cameras? I'm looking to pick up a DSLR sometime this year and just wondering if all of these old lenses will be compatible.

You will need an adaptor ring and you loose auto focus, but yes those lens can work with a newer style body.

I have an AE-1 and a newer digital canon (2 actually) - as long as the lenses are EF mounts they should fit the new canon cameras (w/o any adaptors). You don't lose auto focus.

Panasonic GX1 micro four thirds. Have a look at them - dpreview.com is suggesting they are the way of the future. You give up the optical view finder and good continuous focus but they fit in a jacket pocket (depending on the lens) so you can always have it with you.

i use a canon 50d with my 17-85mm canon. my family shoots canon, my bf and his family shoots canon.
i do have two other lenses but i havent tried them out yet
I also have been working on using the extension tubes, but i need to use the other lenses and my tripod.
i hope to save enough this year to buy a canon 100mm macro at the end of the year
