me and some buddies want to go camping this week. I dont know any nice campgrounds. Only place i know of is convict lake. anyone know a good place for freshwater fishing and camping.

*we are not experienced, just some young guys looking to have a good time fishing and manly bonding.

thanks.

Convict is ok but it gets so windy there. I like to go down to Devils Post Pile to camp, your away from the rat race plus there's a nice place to shower over at the Red's Medows Campground. That area might still be closed so call ahead.

Another good place is up around Rock Creek above Toms place. It gets windy up at the lake so we always try and stay along the creek.

If you want to see some bears go up to Mono Village at the end of Twin Lakes (Bridgeport) its been a while but the bears were so thick it got to were you didn't want to see em any more.

Not a big fan of the Mammoth lakes area or the June loop, there's just way too many people.

The whole creek from Twin Lakes to Bridgeport has some great camping - tends to fill up, so call first. Great trout fishing, we used to make it up twice a year, but haven't been there in about a decade.

Robinson Creek...its a sweet place to camp and far enough away from all the rat race. Its been years since we've camped up there, mostly cause its hard to get a site.

reserveusa.com its the gov website of all most campgournds in the country. I personally am going to Wheller Gorge july 7 8 9 becuase its the only nice one within 1 hour drive that is not like a park. Its an actual forest (San Padres National Forest). Site#13, I go 2 or 3 times a year. Its a nice place with river running through it and fishing lakes are wihtin 10 minute drive. PM me for directions if you wana go there

Rock Creek Lake!!! Its closer than Convict and its amazing. You can camp at Rock Creek or the Lake. Eastern Campground on the Creek is awsome but the best sites can be reserved. Check it out a Rockcreeklake.com. Tons of fish and a beautiful creek.

This is where my family always goes camping. You can drive way up into the hill and there are hundreds of camping spots.

If you like to river fish, they have it.
If you prefer lakes, they have it.
If you prefer fly fishing, they have it.

There are bears and deer and other night vermin that are happy to stomp thru your campsite and wreak random havoc. You can park next to your camp site, or park and hike long or short distances to your camp site.

There is swimming available and they allow small boats and have rentals. There is a country store and restaurant in case you need more ice or forget something. Rest Rooms are cinder block with nice cold stainless steel seats guaranteed to ice your buns.

They have camp sites that allow rover (dogs) AND trigger (horses)

We love it up there and I highly recommend it.

We stayed at Rock Creek Lake Lodge last early September and it snowed Saturday morning. I think I've stayed at either the lake or creek campgrounds 50+ times in the past. I just like beds now.
The lake elevation is 9,700 so be ready to breath real hard.
