Can 6060s be on a timer?

I have two 6100s and two 6060s in my tank. Can I put the 6060s on a timer to go off when the lights are off and then turn on when the lights are on? I know the photoeye does somthing similar, but would a regular timer work without damaging the unit? I know it can be hooked up this way as a wavemaker, but only on and off once a day?

Off and one once a day is fine. Just fast off an on is the problem, they need to run in 15 minimum intervals, but the longer the better for the pump. I would suggest if you dont have it get the gaurd that goes on the pumps output to keep small fish and snails out when shut off.
