can a corals sting hurt you?

Well last night I failed to take my own advice. My Acan Echinata decided it didn't like me anymore, and stung me. Little frag had fallin from where I had set it(no glue yet, I wasnt sure if it would be happy there...) so I figured I could just reach in and grab'em real quik, and I did, but got stung for my efforts. Ungrateful little punk of a frag...shoulda just let him sit upside down and suffer(j/k). But I will be stopping by Wal-Mart or Home Depot on my way home from work to pick up some Nitrile gloves. Luckily I didn't have too bad of a reaction this time, just a slight discomfort on my finger tips.

I have never been "stung" per se. However, I have had cases where my hand had tingled a little after handling a coral without gloves. That was enough to persuade me that some sort of toxin was being absorbed. :D

It's funny that everyone was concerned about Rich using power tools. I was more concern that he was wearing latex gloves while working with a powertool. I have seen cases where a latex glove was caught by a powertool and made it impossible for the person to jerk their hand away quickly. :P Only glove I would even consider around a power tool is one that is made out of leather and that I can slide my hand out of it easily. That way if a power tool grab it, I can still jerk my hand away.

Oh - Stacy was cringing at Rich's use of the powertool as well. I remindered her that Rich uses powertools all the time, so he experienced at handling one. Then she reminds me that her dad is experienced with a framing nailer until he nailed his thumb to the roof, and had to use a crow bar to remove it. *sigh*

agreed. Power tool accidents are no good. yup... done that too. Stupid safety switches and angle grinders!

LOL, both of my Grandfathers cut off a finger with a Circular Saw.
My Uncle kept the finger in a coffee can and was charging kids to look at it!

I had a zoa fall last night and I grabbed it , nothing really happened, then my fingers turned purple and started pussing.... OH wait that didnt happen, but they did feel kinda tingly. it was kinda interesting.

i woke up with these itchy white blistery things on my fingers this morning, all i can think it was caused by is my corals. the one that did it is likley one i got for free a while back, its a fleshy sps type nodulating/ridged coral that was fragged and given out for free, i do beleive the story behind it is the guy got it as it was confinscated by customs? any way it slimed reall good last time i moved it and it made my fingers feel a little funny then, i washed right away but now i got these white itchy irritaiong lumps under my fingertips and they are all a little puffy too....
was it the coral?

Absolutely, and you can get infections too.

He should keep that picture and charge kids to see it. :D
Hang it over the back of your tank and you may be persuaded to use gloves.
