Can a filter sock be too long?

Hi, so I'm almost finished my sump, but I only have 2 filter socks which won't be enough, and the 2 I currently have I had to cut and glue with reef glue so that they wouldn't touch the bottom of the sump, but now I'm on JL aquatics and they only sell filter socks that are about 14" long, and the filter socks that fit well in my sump are 10" long.

I think this is a dumb question but is it fine if I have 4" of the sock sideways on the bottom of the sump?

Thanks!

It won't matter. If anything longer socks give you more time as they have more surface area to fill, even if bent a little at the bottom.

I have your solution! https://www.aquaticexperts.com/collections/all/4-inch-ring

I bought a Elite Aquatics sump that uses 4" (ring size) socks and most places only carry the long 14" ones and the super short ones. The 14" long socks would always push the socks up a little bit causing the ring to not sit flush in the sock wells so water would bypass the socks. The super short ones (8") clogged way to fast. So I did some digging and found the above website. I ordered the 10.5" socks and they are absolutely perfect for my set-up. They have a lot of options so I'm sure you'll find the best sock for your sump there.

That would be awesome, but unfortunately I live in Canada (which sucks if your into saltwater) :(

Thanks though!
