i have some questions about Ich here, i hope ppl on the RC can answer all my questions.

1. excatly, how does ich kill fish ?

2. for those ppl with reef tank and amount of fish in tank, there's no way they can treat the whole tank or take out all the fish, so is there any easier way you can do to 100% get rid of ich ?

3. does Ozone actully helps kill those parasites?

4. even with messive large UVs, the UV only works when the ich spawn and also need to be lucky enough to have ALL those pass through UV inorder to cure the whole tank; which means it can only control the amount of ich instead of completely clean it ?

I think ich causes breathing problems and makes them eventually stop eatting. Well I'm not sure but I think Kevin2000 knows. There is no solution to 100% removal of ich without moving the fish out. You can build up their immune system with garlic extracts and vitamins mixed in their food. The only ways if you want a ich free tank is taking them out which is not a option. Ozone I dont know, kevin probaly knows. I think that its true that UV lights can control the amount of ich parasites floating around but not clean it. Since ich has 3 stages and the stage where they are in the water column is the stage where they are most likly to be killed. Sorry I cant provide much good info. Maybe these links can help

can anyone explain about ich?

can anyone explain about ich?

first off let me tell you that i am no expert! I have done a lot of reading like a lot of aquarist have done but no acctual autopsy of a fish that has died from ich ! 1. I believe from all of my readings that the fish actually die from a second type of infection other than the ich it's self. If I had to geuss as to how it might kill a fish I would say afixiation due to ich starting in the gills and damaging tissue. 2. As far as treating the whole tank so far 100% is a mystery some say this works and some say that works .The problem with treating a tank is you kill off corals and all of your other benificial life forms.Chemical treatments are brutal to the reef. 3.Ozone from what i understand kills every thing it comes in contact with. As well as being harmfull to humans in small doses over certain parts rer million and prolonged expousure. 4.uv sterilizers tend only to kill single celled organisms , ich trophont's must pass through the uv sterilizer to be killed or mutated !IMO it is impossible to have every drop of water in a tank run through a uv but what does go through is less of a risk to your fish!

Like I said at the begining I'M no expert If someone has acctualy put the cells of an ich infeccted fish as well as an uninfeccted fish under the microscope and documented thi please give informatin on your findings!

I read an article somewere were they put a treated fish under the microscope and the findings were that ich was still present even after treatment. Not sure of what treatment it was:eek1: :mixed:

thankx for the info.

anyone can give me a clear answer about the ozone part ?

also according to one of the link, does dipping new fish in fresh water with the right PH can 100% clean out the ich that's on the fish ?
