I've had this live rock for well over a year in my system.. when I first got it.. I noticed this cool skeleton and series if clams that were apart of the rock.. so I faced it outward in my fuge..nothing ever changed. Besides the clams opening and closing...

About 6 or 6 months ago.. I noticed a cool feather duster pop out from the dead skeleton on the rock.. so I've kept my eye on that duster and the clams now and again.. just to check on them..and see how big the feather duster got (quarter sized now..but besides the point)

The other day.. I noticed some polyps growing on the old skeleton... now there are 7 or 8 growing and putting down new skeleton...

Is that normal for them to be tucked away so to speak for so long?

And any guesses what they could be?

And yes.. I've got a ton of aptasia in my fuge... the xenia is slowly covering and killing it lol

Pictures arnt the best because it's in a pretty hard spot to get a decent picture..

They look like hidden cup corals to me... but I have some in my display that are quite a bit different and bigger

Yes, hidden cup corals (Phyllangia americana), hidden amongst the aiptasia.

These are other ones... they have a clear polyp body.. and the skeleton size is about the size of a dime...

Other ones are the size of an eraser..

I'm pretty stoked to have 2 diff breeds of them now!!

Now to figure out how to break them off that rock before the xenia cover them too

I guess another question... those skeletons were dead for over a year... are they able to hide/hibernate that long?

I had a torch appear from nothing on a piece of rock I had bought months prior. I would say it's entirely possible. Life is nuts.
