Can anyone ID this type snail?

cato

New England
Noticed a few new snails in my tank. Not sure if they are good or bad. Anyone know? I can see at least 3 of them. They are about the size of a pencil eraser and appear to be eating the coralline off the rocks.

Here's another shot.

I'm not completely sure but my take is that it's a Sundial Snail which is a zoanthid eating snail and should be removed from the reef.

When do they come out? At night or during the day? To my knowledge Sundial come during the day or anytime and the other harmless one come out at night. I have the harmless one that are nocturnal. I just compared your pic to my sail and can not tell for sure. I think Sundial get a bit larger that the others?

Yours look more like sundials though, I hope I am wrong though. Do you have any zoas? If so how are they doing?

Looks like a zoanthid eating box snail , but the ones Ive seen are black and white checkered . If I remeber correctly they have a cone that they close thier trap with , when in doubt pull that ***** out .

They are easier to find after my halide goes off. Can't find them during the day. I have 1 colony of zoas that appear find...will look more closly at them.

I think that the heliacus have a pyramid shaped operculum - the 'door' on the shell. Not sure as I have never had them but I think I remember this.

your right the link i provided has a great pic of the operculum

Here's a better pic. The foot is a normal type foot that all my other snails have. No cone or anything even resembling one.
