Can anyone identify this?

Greetings!

I found this board after doing a search for "Barbed claw" on google.

Someone is touting this as a "Loch Ness Monster" tooth that was supposedly pried out of the ribcage of a deer carcass on the shore of Loch Ness.

No one on our Cryptozoology board seriously believes it's an actual tooth of anything, but several of us do think it came from some crustacean.

I found links for mantis shrimp on Google, and thought maybe one of the various subspecies might have a claw like this.

NOO, definetly not from a mantis shrimp!

1) There arent any species that live in the Loch
2) They dont come outta the water
3) The biggest species is like 1-2" not big enough to rip a deer in half

I cannot think of any animals that lives in the loch or around it that has a tooth like that, in fact icant think of any animal that has a tooth like that!

Hehe, nooo. I know enough about basic animal anatomy, that I'd never have put those barbs and black tip on it. Those barbs would make flossing all kinds of difficult.

I haven't looked for any published accounts because I thought it was a hoax to begin with. I first heard of it here- BigfootForums.com, Crypto section

How many Whitetail's live in Scotland? Per the website link, if you look at the pictures, this does not appear to be a red deer. Red deer are much closer in size and appearance to an elk. Looking at the animal remains and the hoof size, this appears to be a whitetail... from North America. Or another immature cervidae species as previously mentioned.

Assuming this is not a deliberate hoax of some kind, it's not a white-tail antler (wrong color and shape), but it is indeed a deer antler (from a young deer, or small species). Dominance fight gone sour, I would say, and then a wolf or a wildcat stumbled across the free dinner.

Personal opinion is this is a hoax, but they did a fairly convincing job of it.
