i had a 150g with thousands, never bothered any zoas, in my new tank they eat them like candy. i got a harlequin, he ate most of them then i traded it out. now i pluck 1 or two a week, and have seen no issues. if i see one, i toss it!
I too thought they were blown out of proportion as a pest until I witnessed dozens on a large CAR colony with the skirts literally being nibbled off like a corn cob. Harlequin knocked the entire population out within a week. Just be sure to feed a small chocolate chip star to your Harlequin every now and then, and watch the nutrient spike from the dead star.
I've had some fragged Acans and was ulnurturing them back to health - suddenly their appearance went south.
I predated during the night and of course I saw asterina stars munching at small Acan heads. Since then it's a free trip down the city sewage for them.
