Can Chaeto Grow on Rock?

I just saw a pic of a reefer's tank, and it looked like he had Chaeto growing on the rock. Here it is:

Is that really Chaeto? How can one grow it on LR?

It sure looks like chaeto - far as I know it is free floating ....... what a beautiful tank  T

I have never seen Chaetomorpha growing attached to anything. It may grow tangled in other algae or in mangrove roots. Commonly seen species C. crassa, and C. linum do not appear to have holdfasts like most other macroalgae. Chaetomorpha aerea may be one species that grows attached to substrate.

Hey!

Thats my tank lol.

Chaeto has not attached to the rock at all. I am using it as an in tank nutrient/phos export. It is very easy to move around and mold into whatever crevice I want.

One of my Koralia 3's is pointing towards the back and bottom of my tank. The chaeto gets lots of flow from under and on top.

I stuffed some in the back and every 3-4 days I stretch it out more and more. My goal is for it to cover over some bad parts of invasive Dictyota algae.

So far it is working great and is aesthetically pleasing, especially with some dragons tongue algae stuffed behind it.
