can fish sleep during light on?

cloak I can sleep with lights on and when the sun is up even... ;)

Horses sleep standing up, I can't do that... I have no clue if fish can sleep with lights on or if they sleep while standing up or not? ;)

Fish need some lights out time - it's why in our reefs most of the fish go find "their spot" when the lights go out. The daylight fish like tangs and angels relax at night and the nocturnal fish like cardinals come out and feed. The best advise is to mimic their actual habitat in the way of temperature, water quality, and sun up/down times.

Your plants need some lights out time as well. Photosynthesis 24X7 will not work better and I saw a study some time ago that actually showed it stunted the growth of many plants. I would shoot for 12 hours on the opposite of your DT lights.

+1 plants need a photoperiod too. I am growing tomatos and flower seedlings indoors right now until the danger of frost passes (early May in WI) and I do not keep the light on more than a few hours.

Run your fuge lights opposite of your tank lights. If your tank is lit for example from noon till midnight, light your fuge midnight till noon.

Chateo needs a photoperiod, but caulerpa is better maintained with 24 hour lighting so they do not go into a reproductive cycle in which the plants will completely break down into sexual cells. It can be prevented by keeping the lights on and doing regular pruning. You don't have to worry about this with chateo though

you should run your sump lights opposite of your display tank lights .then the frogfish would have a "night" period and could rest easier .
