Can I add another maroon?

I have a medium sized, farely agressive maroon clown hosting a good sized BTA. What are the chances of successfully introducing a mate for him/her? I think I heard somewhere that maroons can be very difficult to pair up?'

Thanks

Yes, they are difficult. Have you read the sticky on pairing?
All I can add is get the smallest juvinelle you can find. Introduce them slowly and be ready to remove it if the new one is getting beat up too badly. Make sure the new one has somewhere to hide if getting picked on. I saw a thread where someone used a water bottle, introduded the new tiny maroon in the water bottle. If the female picked on the little guy he could retreat back into the bottle and be safe. Wish I could find the thread, from several months ago.

Yeppers, Read the sticky. FYI... I would recommend setting up another tank and put both clows a tthe same time in the side tank till they pair up and then put them back in your main tank with the BTA. That way the female will not get as hostile.

Thanks guys for the replies! I didnt see the sticky but have read it now. Thats an interesting idea with the water bottle...I could even safely target feed the little fella in it.

I'll think about it.

keep up update on this. i so want to try it too. my maroon been lonely for over 3yrs now.

The LFS near her put the male in a breeding container inside the tank for a week or so then release him to the tank. He is successful 100% of the time that I can see. The male doesn't get beat up much at all.
