Hi,

I have Current USA PC lighting with the stock bulbs.

The bulbs are ready to be replaced.

So I was thinking of geting 2 new bulbs: 10000 K and 420nm/460nm

I want to get some LPS and SPS corals.

Will my lighting (with new bulbs) be adequate for Anemones, Leather Corals, polyps, Candy Cane Coral, Tree Coral, and Bubble Coral??

I'm not sure about the last three corals.

My aquarium is a 45 gallon, and is 24in. H x 36in. L x 12in. W.

Anemones = Probably not. They need bright light. At least another PC light fixture, and maybe more. Plus, it's not really a great idea to have anemones and corals in the same tank. Anemones can pull up stakes and move when they feel like it. Corals can't,* so they often get stung badly by the moving anemones.

Leathers and tree corals = Probably so. These are soft corals, and usually aren't very demanding in terms of light.

Polyps = Probably so. Zoanthids, palythoa, etc. usually do fine with low-to-moderate lighting.

Candy canes and bubble corals = Maybe. These are LPS corals. Most LPS have light requirements somewhere between soft corals and SPS. Considering the depth of the tank, a second PC light fixture might be a good idea.

*Except that cool "walking coral" species from Australia with the symbiotic worms.

You should be fine with all of the critters in your list. Anemones enjoy bright light, but will also be fine with the wattage of your fixture. An anemone will walk to a spot it enjoys, it can also be fed a little chopped up table shrimp to supplement the nutrition.

keep the corals with skeletons closer to the light.

I agree with all this except for the anemone part. It really depends on the type of anemone...Carpets=NO, Sebae=NO

IMO you don't have strong enough lighting for LPS and definately not SPS. Corals like Mushrooms and Zoos will do well.

I don't think that you should have any prob with softies and many LPS's . I would recommend candycanes, pagoda cups, blastomusa ,frogspawn, open brains and hammers . I have had much luck with those in my 14g biocube with 48w of PC.

I agree with surf and turf. Back before there was MH and VHO, PC is what people used to light their tanks. I have a JBJ 24 gal with just the stock dual 36w 50/50 bulbs. I have pink and purple birdsnest, Orange and green montipora, Montipora Capricorn, purple acropora, purple and green catspaw. I have to keep them pretty high in the tank though. Their colors haven't faded or washed out either.
