Can I cover BB tank bottom with LR

Can I cover most of the bottom with live rock in a bare bottom tank so it doesn't look bare? At least not to have any visible glass bottom toward the front of the tank.

Will this cause any negative effect on the tank?

So far I had small success with DSB but is thinking about trying BB out in my 150GL tank.

Also my 150GL has a huge refugium with DSB, will this have negative effect on the conversion to BB system?

There may be two issues there:

LR can become quite a detritus trap in itself. All those pores ... I find in my BB I have a few `settling areas' that are near the front [handy for the siphoning] - that if on rock, grow algae easily.

Also, with a lot of rock near the bottom - in my experience it can cause a low-flow area, often encouraging debris settling. This works against keeping detritus in suspension.

If you're willing to clean regularly, can manage to avoid having the rock become a settling area ... you could probably make it work. IMO, it's troublesome, though.

Can you do it yes. Would I recomend it not really. You need as little rock touching the bottom so it can cleanly get moed into pikes by the flow or stay suspended.
