i really want to buy an anemone for my tank , but my tank has only been running for 6 months.... my water perameters are stable and i have had fish living in it for a little over three months as well as a plate coral and everything seems to be going well, except for my red algae problem! oh , and i have a cleaner shrimp...... i REALLY want an anemone but i know you shouldnt get one until your tank has been running for a long time....

i have a 14 gallon biocube with 2 12 watt flourecent light bulbs (or 24 watts of flourecent it says they are compact)
and 2 12 watt actinic light bulbs (or 24 watts it says they are compact) and 2 3/4 watt LED lights

can i keep an anemone, if any and which one would be best suited for my tank?n and how much longer till i can get one ?

I hesitate to answer, but...as far as time goes another 2 months would be ideal. BUT, 14g is still not really large enough and light is really not enough.

yeah everyone in the other thread i posted agrees with you, i would settle for a toadstool leather or some
LPS that the clowns MAY host.... any suggestions?

I have heard false percs hosting frogspawn and hammer corals, some hairy mushrooms and about anything that "waives". I have never had one do this, but have read of a lot who have. Probably more of frogspawn, but of course, there are no guarantees that they will.

I completely understand why people want anemones. They are just so neat to watch. Guess that is why I have too many in my tank. It seems that a lot of times I even choose corals that in some way imitate the action of waiving arms.

The waving action is relaxing :)

A toadstool leather at this point may be a good idea, bigger may be better so the clowns don't overwhelm it. It should be okay for size and lighting you have. I've heard of them hosting frog spawns too, but I think leathers might be more forgiving.

I understand the desire for the nems too (I have 2), but you're making wise decisions by being cautious. If you did add a nem that did well, you'd face a second problem - size :) You'd either have to upgrade tanks or get rid of the nem when it gets too big.

Good luck!

well im not worried about it getting too be, being that i am upgrading to a 125 gallon, but i am worried about my lighting and my tank being right for the anemone..... so i am going to get a toadstool leather, which one though?

Toadstool is a common name for a type of leather.
Leathers have varying shapes. Toadstools look like, well, toadstools :) They look like mushrooms you'd find outside (not in the tank;)). They've got a flat fuzzy top, I think that's what attracts the clowns :)

http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=753 here's a link to a toadstool on live aquaria to give you an idea, it only shows the top, but there's a stalk under it that isn't pictured.

My clowns also liked our anthelia, but unfortunately the anthelia wasn't able to withstand the hosting.

A word of caution, you may come across a figi yellow leather, they look really neat, but I've heard these are harder than your typical leathers, so you might want to bypass that one.

Good luck!

I would agree on the toadstool  As stated, stay away from the yellow (more delicate, higher light requirement, etc). With a tank that small, your clowns will likely find it VERY quickly. Try to buy one at your LFS that is "open" (not shriveled) and already under PC lights. Leathers can adapt to just about any light, and if you buy one that is already under lower power lights it will be happier in your tank. If you buy one that is under heavy MH lights now, it might not work out as well.

Do understand though, leathers can put off some toxins that irritate other corals. You might have issues keeping many other things in your tank. You can assist this by running some carbon if you aren't already.
