Can I get another clown?

I bought a black clown 2 days ago and he is doing great but I hear there better in pairs so I am just wondering if I can add another clown or will my current clown kill him?

Tank info: 14g biocube with 12lbs of liverock. Corals, and a peppermint shrimp. Only fish at the moment is my clown.

You could get another one, but you won't have room for anything else in the tank due to their aggression when they pair up or begin breeding.

One clown will be fine by itself.

I agree with Korrine. If you do want to add another clown, make sure it is smaller than the one you currently have.

FWIW, my female misbar percula has been single her whole life - 5 years or so now.

Poor girl, has she tried online dating?

Personally, I would add a smaller black ocellaris. It's interesting to watch the interacting between clownfish.

What type of clown? "Black" isn't enough. The odds are good that it is an Ocellaris, but it could also be an A. polymnus, in which case I wouldn't add another one, at least not to that sized tank.

One more thing to add. You'll need to move them to a larger tank as they mature. My female perc is about 3 1/2" and owns my 30g tank. A 14g tank will be much too small for two mature clowns.

Yea I'll just keep it one clown. He seems happy and this way I can get a different second fish that mixes well with clowns

that would probably be best. clowns dont really do better or worse in pairs. also to let you my friend's female black occ clown is now about 5 inches long and he's had it for about 4 years. they get large

I thought it took longer for them to reach that size. I have a guy that has an occy who is that size and he said it's like 10 yrs old. Has he had it all 5 years of it's life or did he buy it when it was a bit older?

Ok so I'm going to a rule a second clown out but def want another small fish. What would you guys and gals recommend with a single clown besides another clown? I only want 2-3 fish max in my tank

Green Clown Goby is one of my favorite nano fish. Make sure you find one that is eating well though. Tail Spot Blenny is another cool little guy.

Well I decided to buy a lawnmower blenny. He looks good and seems to be a ok with the clown. He is really hard to find on my bare rocks. He blends in so well!

I have been told by some people at a LFS that adding a second clown will end up getting it killed..I didnt listen and did what most people said just put in a smaller one.I did this with saddlebacks and it was almost immediate that they took to each other and went on and bred. I have them hosting in a green carpet and they love it. I like to think as a single clown gets a little matured it wants a second "friend". If you are lucky enough to see them breed the way they take care of the eggs is fantastic.

Is it eating prepared foods? You might have to supplement its diet with some nori, since I doubt there will be enough algae in a 14 gallon tank for it.
