Can I keep a Blue Powder Tang and a Copperband butterfly in this tank?

Hello everyone,

I really want to upgrade from my 75 gallons to a bigger tank. But because the space I have in my house is limited so I can't just get a standard 6 feet, 180 gallons tank.
I am thinking of ordering a custom made tank with the dimension of
60"L x 28"W x 21"H = 150 gallons.

I already have 2 Lyretail anthias, 2 yellow tail damsels and 2 percula. I will keep all of them and move them to the new tank.

With the new tank, I would like to buy a Blue Powder tang and a Copperband butterfly also.

What do you think about these fishes living together in that tank for many
years?

Thanks

normally no problem.....just either add them to together or the the CB first...but there are exceptions like my PBT which won't tolerate any other tang even if I remove it for awhile and re-enter it.

I agree. Qt is a must with all fish but especially with the 2 that you want to keep. Make sure and add the CB first of course and give it plenty of time (minimum of 2 months) to establish its territory and to get comfortable eating in the tank as the only "big" fish. Once you add all other fish you want to keep, then add the PbT last.

Thanks,
I never keep Blue Powder tang before so don't know how they are.
The only tang that I have so far is the Purple tang. while some people stated that they are very aggressive but not in my case. I bought it from someone who had it in their tank for few years.. then I have it for another 4 years.. It is a very easy going fish..

so you have a purple tang already too?

That and the PBT might not go well together as they are both fairly aggressive of other tangs.

While I almost always recommend a 6-foot+ tank for PBT, in your case I think it will work long-term, due to the 28" width. Keep in mind that you may still have aggression issues due to lack of the total volume, but space-wise I think your tank is sufficient for an adult PBT. Get a small one ~ 3" so that it could grow up in the tank and get used to the limited amount of space.

Regarding the purple tang, it currently doesn't really have anyone to harass, since your other fish are not the typical fish that tangs harass. The story will change when you add the PBT and copperband. I would highly recommend removing the purple tang for two weeks when you add the copperband, since it's a very sensitive fish and would have trouble acclimating with harassment from tank mates. The purple and PBT may go at each other for a couple of days but should settle down after that.

I currently have Purple tang but I will give it to my brother along with my 75 gallons set up when I have the new tank.

The new tank will have:
1 blue powder tang,
1 copperband butterfly
2 lyretail anthias
2 true perc
2 yellowtail damsels

That list is fine. introduce the CBB first and allow him to settle for a few weeks before putting the PBT in.
