can i keep one in a 3g?

I wouldn't keep anything in a 3g for very long - Not even a small mantis

Water quality tends to fluctuate very quickly in such a small tank-

Id give an N. wennerae at least 5 gal but Id hesitate with even that small a tank. You may get away for a while with a juvenile mantis of a small species like N. wennerae or G. smithii but I wouldn't recommend it.

A Haptosquilla should do fine indefinitely in a tank that small -- if you can make sure the water stays OK.

one: If you put a Haptosquillid in a 3gal, water shouldn`t just be ok. it should be practically constantly pristine.

two: the more common Haptosquillid (which aren`t very common to begin with) is H. stoliura which requires 5 gal minimum. H tripsinosa requires the same.

The only way I could imagine keeping the water clean enough with out slaving over it is to make it part of a larger system. Like cut a hole in the back, put some fine mesh over the hole, and have the hole over the sump of a larger system. Then make the the water from the main tank go to the 3 gallon, which in turn flows in to the sump, which has a pump returning water, etc.....or you could save yourself a boatload of time and effort and upgrade to a five gallon and keep a common species like N. Wennerae....or even better, a ten gallon.

I have 3 reef tanks in my room, and i will always be exchanging water between them.... that should keep the water pretty clean. righto?

Do you mean you manually move the water with like, a bucket? or do you mean that you have them all plumbed together? Because if you were to find a haptosquillid (not likely) and plumbed it into a large tank system I think that would keep the water clean enough. Then again, don't listen to me. I set up my first marine tank like a month ago. I have no idea what I'm talking about

I was thinking specifically of Haptosquilla glyptocerus -- will fit in a 3g tank and is hardy and easy to feed. Not very interesting, though. I've had one. You see these two little eyes sticking out of a teeny tiny hole in the rock -- and that's all you see.
