can i mix a tomatoe and a clarkii?

mkay. so what options are out there for more than one breed of clown in the same tank? im looking at a possible pair of a clarkii ( i will remove my current tomato ) and maybe true percs? or black and white percs?

or would we have another race war and hate crimes going on when the lights go out?

hate crimes. clarkkii would overtake the perc. why do u want to mix so bad? percs and occ's do well... have you looked into allardi? look kinda like a clarkii with a special twist :)

well im picking up a s.haddoni and i read that clarkiis are a natraul host for them. will percs or occs host in a s.haddoni ?

IMO-yes. if you must have 2 pair, like mentioned above your best bet are percs and occ's, but still IMO too much for a 40

you guys are right. i just need to find a suitable pair to host in a s.haddoni ( that stay kinda small! ) and remove the tomato clown i have. any reccomendations?

Skunks may get along w/ something passive like an occ, but still chancy, especially in a 40.
I wouldn't do more than one pair of clowns and one nem in a tank that size.

i agree and thats now the new plan. sometimes you just have to have someone tell you something you already know.

what all will host ( easily and commonly ) in a red carpet nem? ( s.haddoni i think )

havent picked it up yet but its a real looker! have it on hold at the LFS for a few days still make sure it doesnt die from shipping stress

You know, there used to be a thread, "host anemones, everything you need to know"
I think it was by wizardgus.
It just disapeared.
Too bad, it had all the matches.
maybe someone can post it.

i do not like to mix clowns nor do i suggest it. but, i have a female GSM and male occelaris pair. they mlae was being QT'd in the same tank with the female in a breeder box.. well he escaped out and they fell in love... so naturally i could not seperate them. they never leave eachothers side. its kinda cool i am hoping to get them to breed. but once again this was by chance and i do not suggest it. in a 40 i would go for one type and one pair only.

understandable. one pair is the wise choice ( and the choice i will be making ) now the question is. what pairs with the haddoni? i feel my tomato ( a pair ) would be to large for my tank. looking for a small clown fish that will host in a carpet nem.. any ideas?

also. if ive done my homework correctly. a s.haddoni needs its foot placed in the sand. a moderate flow and high light. ( have 250 10k MH + 2x96 watt acentics ) fed silversides/ mysis/ what ever he likes to eat every few days and stable water conditions. any other major do's or dont's for this species ?

i noticed that Gary fed his gigantea a salmon treat i am going to try that as well with my haddoni

Although two pairs is too much, you can always pair different species within one pair. You'll always definitely have to watch for fighting, especially within interspecies pairs, but it can be done. I know you are not looking for more than one pair anymore(very wise decision, by the way), but if you want you can pair your tomato up with another species.

They are correct, though, that maroons, tomatoes, and clarkiis are among the most vicious(I would put polymnus in with that group, personally...), so if attempting interspecies relationship, might be better with two calmer species or a calm female species at least.

If you are looking for a pair of the same species, I always love percs, they do great in carpets, and the patterns that are out there now(onyx, picasso, etc.) gives you great options with what you would like to accomplish.
