Can I only count on a big skimmer for filteration on SPS tank?

having two skimmers might help because you can run one dry and the other wet. i dont think it would make sence to have two skimmers running the same way.

There was a 750 gallon tank in a old mag I once read that was running 5, 4 foot DIY counter current skimmers. (If memory serves, it might have been 7)

Chris you are correct. The two skimmers will pull out only what is available in the water. I've ran multiple monster skimmers on my system when testing them for GEO and I can say that they can work together, although the more efficient will pull more.

My another question is if a really effective/big skimmer could handle all nutrient issue so it doesn't need any refugium, DSB or anything else?

The answer is a big skimmer and live rock, yes those will handle it. Of course it all depends on what you are trying to do.

I've run my SPS tank for a couple years that way, so I'd argue yes.

No 'fuge, no DSB, no PO4 remover ... large skimmer, regular maintenance, and I've been happy with it.
