can I save them?

I tried searching for my problem, but since I don't know what it's called . . .
This morning my zoas were fine. This evening, I noticed a patch about 2" square that had a white snotty looking growth. I tried to blow it off with a turkey baster and it didn't move. I poked it and it seems pretty solid. It is surrounding the zoa heads like it's trying to choke them.
Any ideas?

Probably an agressively growing sponge (sponges are normally harmeless and indeed there are symbiotic exmples between zoas and sponges) or the mysterious zoanthid fungus/bacteria/plague.

Ahhh, sadly no pics. I can't seem to find my digital camera. I broke the section off and put it in my qt so it couldn't spread. Unfortunately, I also have a chocolate chip star in the qt (my former LFS told me it was reef safe, and now it is banished). I thought I had the zoa colony protected enough, but I guess stars can also move rock--he ate it!
